12 YEARS AND GOING

The New Beginning
A turbulent year for a new beginning: Eyjafjallajökull halts air traffic, the euro crisis shocks the continent, and the Arab Spring begins. At the same time, the iPad is launched and *Time* names Mark Zuckerberg “Person of the Year.” In Berlin, we open think moto to bridge the gap between digital and brand agencies.
A New Classic
*Branded Interactions* is published by Hermann Schmidt just in time for the Frankfurt Book Fair. With the branded interaction design process, think moto hits the nerve of the time. The book quickly advances to become the international standard work on brand management in the digital transformation and, after a fundamental update, has also been available in English and Chinese since 2018.
Success Story of a Minimum Viable Brand
For the new startup relayr we transfer the concept of the minimum viable product to branding. We keep the brand strategy and brand foundations flexible enough to adapt to shifts in the company’s course at any time. According to *Wired UK*, relayr has soon become “one of Europe’s hottest startups” and will be taken over by Munich Re for 300 million US dollars in 2018.
Masterpiece of Logo Design
For the Russian e-health startup Gero, we use motion data from the community to create a generative logo as an abstract tree of life that changes in real time. In *The Logo Design Idea Book*, renowned design author and curator Steven Heller and designer Gail Anderson name it one of the “50 Masterpieces of Logo Design” alongside classics from NASA, LEGO, and IBM.
We need more space for our growing team and ideas. And we find it in an old brewery building halfway between Berlin-Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. To this day, the spacious loft office corresponds to our idea of new working in the right environment—with an arena for events, a co-lab space, and the opportunity to engage in lively exchange.
Extended Reality for Brands
For Volkswagen, we compile a pattern library for extended realities, i.e. for augmented, virtual and mixed reality. With possibly the world’s first brand guidelines in this area, we define brand-specific use patterns that significantly shorten the time-to-market of subsequent applications and guarantee a consistent user experience.
Sharing is Caring
Our long-held wish comes true—with our own academy, where we begin by passing on our experience in two master classes. The meet-up group *Brand New Thinkers*, which was set up in parallel, quickly attracts over 500 members, and the first meet-ups in our expanded CoLab are fully booked. In 2022, we expand the academy program to include fundamental courses.
Growing Despite the Pandemic
Corona is still the talk of the town, we work mostly from home. That doesn’t keep us from running exciting projects with a great team that is almost doubling in size by half. A team that evolves together and enables personal growth.
